Hawzah News Agency- In his Friday prayer sermon on September 25, 2026, Ayatollah al-Musawi remarked that the United Nations has failed to stand up against oppression or prevent wars and occupations particularly after the international order shifted toward a unipolar system following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
He added that the United States and its Western allies have become the dominant forces in the international order, and that Washington has reproduced colonial methods in a new guise through its interference in various countries and the instigation of wars. The Baghdad Friday prayer leader also criticized the UN's inability to counter these actions.
Criticizing the "shameful stances" taken by some Arab and Islamic nations at recent UN meetings, Ayatollah al-Musawi stated: "The warm reception and cooperation extended by officials from these countries to US officials at a time when the region's nations are facing slaughter and devastation is incompatible with the dignity of these nations."
He also criticized the Iraqi Prime Minister's meeting with the US President, asserting: "Iraq must not appear before the United States in a manner that betrays submission or humiliation." Iraq Must Not Be Weakened
In another part of his remarks, the Friday Prayer Imam of Baghdad warned against weakening Iraq and the country's national forces, emphasizing that Iraq must expand cooperative ties with forces that bolster the country's strength, authority, and dignity.
He described the Islamic Republic of Iran as a regional power that has stood firm against the United States and the Zionist regime.
The Baghdad Friday Prayer Imam also criticized the decision to block certain incoming flights from Iran to Iraq, noting that a significant percentage of passengers on these flights are pilgrims visiting the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS).
He added that he had pursued this matter with Iraqi and Iranian officials as well as the relevant committee, but the information provided to him regarding alleged threats or security justifications for these measures did not substantiate their validity.
Ayatollah al-Musawi went on to address the issue of weaponry, stating that his consistent position is that military power must be part of the state structure; he does not support the formation of armed groups outside of state institutions.
At the same time, he emphasized that the regulation of weapons must not serve as a pretext to weaken forces that have combated terrorism, nor should it be used to impose American influence on Iraq.
This prominent scholar from the Najaf Seminary also praised the Lebanese Resistance and Yemen’s Ansarullah, regarding these forces as key elements of strength and deterrence against the United States and the Zionist regime. He also praised the role of the martyred Grand Ayatollah Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei in establishing a regional power capable of challenging the United States.
Emphasizing that the Iraqi people constitute a unified nation, the Baghdad Friday Prayer leader stated: "The massive public turnout for the pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (AS) and the funeral processions for the Resistance commanders demonstrates the Iraqi people's commitment to honor and dignity, as well as their rejection of any form of submission or capitulation."
In concluding his sermons, Ayatollah Seyyed Yasin al-Musawi called upon Iraqi political factions particularly the Coordination Framework to shoulder their responsibility for upholding Iraq's dignity and to set aside personal interests and fear.
