Grand Ayatollah Sobhani calls for jurisprudential leap into AI era

Grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani has praised Grand Ayatollah Ishaq al-Fayyadh for simplifying complex jurisprudential discussions, while calling on Islamic seminaries to establish specialized courses on newly emerging topics such as artificial intelligence in order to address the real needs of the Islamic world in the present era.

Hawzah News Agency- The senior Shia source of emulation made the remarks during a meeting with members of the office of Grand Ayatollah al-Fayyadh. Speaking about the scholarly stature of Grand Ayatollah al-Fayyadh, Grand Ayatollah Sobhani stated, "One of his outstanding qualities is that he has presented the teachings and views of his mentors — particularly the late Grand Ayatollah al-Khoei — to readers through a remarkably fluent, lucid, and clear pen, such that difficult and complex subjects have been rendered simple and comprehensible."

He further pointed to a number of newly emerging topics that Grand Ayatollah al-Fayyadh has addressed, including issues related to banking and other novel subjects, and added that independent courses on newly emerging issues and the contemporary needs of society should be established in Islamic seminaries, especially in the Seminary of Najaf — issues such as artificial intelligence and other modern topics that Islamic societies require today.

Grand Ayatollah Sobhani went on to note that many jurisprudential discussions, such as those concerning trade and transactions, have been extensively debated by jurists over the past two centuries. He therefore asserted that it is befitting for the Seminary of Najaf to take the lead in the arena of novel questions by holding independent courses in this field, thereby bringing about a transformation in the contemporary jurisprudential system and opening new horizons before the Islamic world.
