Strait of Hormuz still under Iranian control

Despite Donald Trump’s statements about creating a route for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping companies have questioned the plan and emphasized that they cannot pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s permission.

Hawzah News Agency- While the US President sought to disrupt Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz in a plan titled “Project Freedom'', media reports report that the plan has failed to date.

Under the pretext of “humanitarian” assistance, Donald Trump announced that the US Navy would “guide” stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz waterway. A US frigate's attempt to pass through the waterway was met with warning shots from Iranian naval forces, forcing the ship to retreat.

The Guardian newspaper has now confirmed, citing shipping companies, that Iran still has full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Officials from these companies have made it clear that there are no guarantees for Trump's "Project Freedom" and that they cannot trust this plan.

Raman Kapoor, the captain of an oil tanker that was denied permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, also stated that he was not willing to accept the "risk" of leaving the strait without Iranian permission. “As captain, my job is also to assess the situation. I have to get the consent of the entire crew – whether they are willing to put their lives at risk. It is a long process'', he stressed.

Jakob Larsen, chief safety and security officer at shipping industry group Bimco, also stressed that Trump’s comments needed clarification.

He warned of the possibility of ships being targeted by Iran, adding that Trump’s “Project Freedom” had increased the “risk of renewed conflict''.

Iran has repeatedly stated that the status of control of the Strait of Hormuz has not changed and that ships will still not be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission and coordination with the country.

So far, Trump’s project, which he calls “Project Freedom'', has failed to gain the trust of many shipping companies and, most importantly, has even threatened American ships and vessels.
