Hawzah News Agency- Several members of the Islamic Movement were burned and buried alive, with approximately 400 corpses dumped in a mass grave without funeral prayers or proper Islamic rites.
Sheikh Zakzaky himself was shot multiple times in what was clearly an assassination attempt. He was hit in the face, and one of his eyes was dislodged. Despite the intent to kill, he miraculously survived. His wife, Malama Zeenat Ibrahim, was also shot more than ten times and lost three sons Hammad, Ali Haidar, and Humaid in her presence.
Ex-President Buhari, former Kaduna State Governor El-Rufai, and the then Chief of Army Staff Buratai orchestrated this massacre and destruction in a bid to eliminate the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. But did they succeed?
To those who believed the initial narrative that the crisis started because followers of Sheikh Zakzaky blocked Buratai’s convoy: who did they block at Sheikh Zakzaky’s residence in Gyallesu? This clearly reveals that the killings were premeditated and not a spontaneous response.
The Buhari administration stands accused of orchestrating one of the gravest state-led massacres in modern history. Over 1,000 unarmed citizens were killed in less than 48 hours under military orders, using heavy weapons against civilians who carried no arms.
After the mass killings at Gyallesu, the military completely demolished Sheikh Zakzaky’s house, then proceeded to Darur Rahma cemetery in Dembo village where many martyrs of the Islamic movement were buried. They destroyed the cemetery, desecrated graves, razed the mosque, and even stabbed into tombs with bayonets.
Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai further ordered the demolition of all properties linked to the Islamic Movement. They destroyed the Fudiyya Islamic Center in Dan Magaji, scattering Qur’ans and religious books. They even demolished the grave of Sheikh Zakzaky’s mother in Jushi.
Despite the brutal massacre of Sheikh Zakzaky’s followers and the destruction of their places of worship, the members of the Islamic Movement did not retaliate or take the law into their own hands. Instead, they responded with wisdom, patience, and legal action.
Eventually, the court discharged and acquitted Sheikh Zakzaky and declared that he and his followers had committed no crime.
