Hawzah News Agency- In a statement issued following the deadly incident, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Abul Qasim Razavi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and denounced the attack in the strongest possible terms. He underscored that targeting civilians and places of worship runs counter to the core principles of Islam, which emphasize the sanctity of human life, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
“The deliberate targeting of innocent people not only violates religious and moral principles but also fuels hatred, insecurity, and instability within societies,” the Melbourne-based cleric said, warning that such acts of violence serve only the interests of those seeking to sow division and fear among communities.
Razavi further called on governments and international institutions to adopt a unified, principled, and decisive approach to confront all forms of terrorism and extremism, urging concrete and effective measures to promote peace, security, and mutual respect among followers of different faiths worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran also issued an official statement condemning the armed attack on the Jewish religious ceremony in Sydney. The statement reaffirmed Tehran’s longstanding position that any act of terror and the targeting of civilians is unjustifiable under any circumstances and must be confronted resolutely by the international community.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei strongly denounced the incident, stating that the killing of human beings and the perpetration of terrorist acts, regardless of time or place, are completely unacceptable and have no moral or legal justification.
According to media reports, the attack took place in the Bondi Beach of Sydney while Jewish religious ceremonies were being held to mark the Hanukkah holiday. The shooting resulted in casualties as well as property damage, with a number of participants reportedly killed or injured. Several Hebrew-language and Australian media outlets described the incident as causing significant loss of life and injuries.
The Premier of New South Wales, citing preliminary evidence, described the incident as a possible terrorist attack and indicated that it appeared to have specifically targeted the Jewish community. Australian police have launched a large-scale investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible, stating that inquiries are ongoing and that the precise motives and full details of the attack are still under investigation.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the rise of violence targeting religious communities and renewed calls for coordinated international efforts to combat terrorism and protect civilians and religious minorities around the world.
