Hawzah News Agency- According to local reports, in the early hours of Thursday, two masked individuals threw large paving stones through the windows of the Elaf Mosque, shattering the glass. This incident came just weeks after unknown assailants had desecrated the mosque by throwing rubbish and offensive materials inside.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed both incidents, stating that investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators. The force also noted that officers had met with mosque representatives to discuss the situation.
Dr. Ibrahim, the mosque’s imam and a general practitioner, condemned the incidents, saying: “We need to live in love and peace. These attacks are clearly a form of Islamophobia. Muslims no longer feel safe in their mosque and fear what may happen next as long as the attackers remain at large''.
He further highlighted the mosque’s community role, explaining: “The Elaf Mosque, which opened about six months ago after being converted from a church, has always maintained good relations with neighbors. Volunteers organize children’s programs and distributed gifts to families during Ramadan. We want to assure our neighbors that the mosque exists for the well-being of the community and is open to everyone''.
