Do Followers of Other Religions Also Go to Heaven?

The path to salvation and eternal happiness lies in Islam. However, those who have not embraced Islam will be judged according to the religion they have received or the dictates of their intellect. Acting correctly according to one’s understanding may grant Paradise, while knowingly rejecting the truth leads to punishment.

Hawzah News Agency- The Department of Propagation and Cultural Affairs of Seminaries addresses this question:

Question: Do those who follow other religions or have no religion go to heaven or hell?

Answer:

1. Those unaware of Islam:
If a person passes away without exposure to Islam—either before its arrival or in a remote area where it never reached them—they will be judged according to the religion that has reached them. Acting correctly within that framework will lead to Paradise, while ignoring its teachings will result in Hell.

2. The irreligious:
For those with no religion, God evaluates deeds according to intellect. If a person follows their conscience—doing good and avoiding evil—they will attain Paradise. Conversely, ignoring this guidance leads to punishment. God, in His wisdom, ensures no nation is left without a messenger or guide.

3. Those who research religions:
If a person studies all religions thoroughly, identifies one as true, and acts according to its teachings, God will accept them into Paradise—whether it is Islam, Christianity, or Judaism. Acting against its teachings, however, leads to punishment.

4. Those who reject the truth knowingly:
If a person recognizes the true religion but refuses to accept it due to prejudice, hostility, or other reasons, they are certain to face Hell, regardless of their other good deeds.

Conclusion:
Islam is the ultimate path to perfection, but God’s justice ensures that everyone is judged fairly according to the knowledge and opportunities they have been given. Acceptance and correct action in accordance with truth are the keys to salvation.
