Qom Official: Hazrat Zainab Is a Timeless Model of Awareness and Scholarly Activism for Women

Fatemeh Heydari praises Hazrat Zainab's decisive leadership and enduring influence at Zainabiyya Pilgrims’ Conference

Qom, Iran — The Head of the General Department of Women and Family Affairs in the Qom Governorate, Fatemeh Heydari, described Hazrat Zainab (PBUH) as a timeless and exemplary role model for women across history, particularly in the areas of problem recognition, spiritual leadership, and intellectual activism.

Speaking at a conference held in honor of the pilgrims of Hazrat Zainab (PBUH), Heydari emphasized that women are one of the most influential pillars of society. She said:

“Hazrat Zainab (PBUH) made a decisive and conscious choice at a critical moment in history — a moment when she could have given in to grief, but instead chose guardianship, wisdom, and courage. That decision changed the course of history, and we are all indebted to her legacy.”

Heydari stressed that the modesty and spiritual strength seen in Iranian and Muslim women today is rooted in the legacy of Hazrat Zainab’s powerful example:

“If today we wear the veil with pride and embrace chastity as a weapon of dignity, it is because of her decision to rise, speak, and stand firm after the tragedy of Karbala.”

She further stated that Hazrat Zainab's leadership during and after Ashura was not a passive reaction but a deliberate and insightful act equal to the missions of divine prophets and saints:

“She entered the battlefield of thought, faith, and resilience with conscious awareness. She didn’t just recognize the problem—she acted upon it with wisdom. Her courage turned the tide of humiliation against Yazid and the armies of falsehood.”

Heydari emphasized that Hazrat Zainab’s influence did not end in 61 AH (680 AD), but continues to inspire generations over 1,400 years later.

“Her stance echoes in the lives of women today. After the recent imposed war, when I visited families of martyrs, I witnessed wives and mothers standing firm, speaking with strength and pride. It filled me with honor to see that such women exist in our land and are raising the next generation of defenders.”

She concluded by calling on Iranian and Muslim women to draw inspiration from Hazrat Zainab’s model in both private and public life—through awareness, conscious action, and unwavering commitment to truth and justice.
