Alawi Shrine Launches 14th Annual World Ghadir Week

Najaf, Iraq – The General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH) has officially launched the activities of the 14th World Ghadir Week, marking the arrival of the greatest Islamic celebration, Eid al-Ghadir.

Hawzah News Agency- The opening ceremony commenced with the raising of the blessed Ghadir flag inside the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH), symbolizing allegiance to the Commander of the Faithful. The event was attended by Sayyid Isa al-Khersan, Custodian of the Holy Shrine, his deputy, senior board members, representatives of other holy shrines, seminary scholars, university professors, Najaf Governorate officials, and a large number of visiting pilgrims.

Sayyid al-Khersan, along with officials and shrine staff, led the ceremonial flag-raising, officially inaugurating a week of cultural, religious, and intellectual celebrations under the theme of “World Ghadir Week.”

Global Reach and Symbolism

Haider Rahim, Head of the Al-Khadim Media Department, emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating: “We are honored to begin the first day of World Ghadir Week with the raising of the Great Ghadir Flag from the shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH), announcing the commencement of this blessed week and opening the Quran and Treasures Exhibition within the Alawi Holy Shrine.”

He noted that this year’s activities have expanded significantly, both inside and outside Iraq, reflecting the growing international recognition of the event.

“Ghadir flags will be raised in more than 20 locations across Iraqi provinces and distributed in over 40 countries worldwide,” Rahim said, highlighting the symbolic representation of the universal and spiritual message of Ghadir and its emphasis on the principle of divine guardianship.

Cultural and Religious Programs

World Ghadir Week includes a broad spectrum of activities, encompassing:

Scientific seminars and scholarly discussions

Quranic gatherings and exhibitions

Cultural, religious, and artistic programs

Special media coverage by local and international outlets

The event aims to reinforce the message of Imamate and Wilayah (divinely appointed leadership) and celebrate the historic declaration made by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at Ghadir Khumm, where he appointed Imam Ali (PBUH) as his successor.

With participation from diverse sectors of society and the international Muslim community, World Ghadir Week continues to affirm its role as a global event uniting believers in reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the legacy of Ahlul Bayt (PBUT).
