Hawzah News Agency | The importance and value of remembering God are so great that the Holy Qur’an states:
«فَاذْکُرُونِی أَذْکُرْکُمْ.»
Remember Me and I will remember you. (2:152)
Explanation:
One of the key teachings of Islam that is emphasized greatly is being mindful of God and engaging in His remembrance. A remembrance that, if forgotten or neglected even for a moment, will lead to long-lasting regret.
As Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, says:
«ما مِن ساعَةٍ تَمُرُّ بِابن آدَمَ لَم یُذکَر اللهُ فیها إلّا حَسِرَ عَلَیها یَومَ القیامَةِ.»
"Every moment that passes for a person without remembering God will cause regret on the Day of Resurrection." (Kanz al-Ummal, p. 1819)
However, when we speak of the remembrance of God, it is not limited to verbal remembrance alone; practical remembrance is also intended. This remembrance should flow through a person's life, manifesting in all aspects and filling their existence with divine color.
Moreover, when a servant aligns their speech and heart and adorns their life with practical remembrance, it is then that God also remembers that servant: "أَذْکُرْکُمْ - I will remember you." (Qur'an 2:152)
God, the Almighty, who is the Master of the heavens, the earth, and the Day of Resurrection, remembers that servant! On the Day of Judgment, when some individuals are raised blind because they were heedless of God and His remembrance in the world (1), God becomes a guiding light for such servants. He removes them from the loneliness and fear of that day and grants them eternal happiness, for God never breaks His promises.
(1) But whoever disregards My remembrance, his shall be a wretched life, and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection. (Qur'an 20:124)
