Hawzah News Agency- Mr Fumio Iwai, Japan’s ambassador to Iraq, met with Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi, a Shia source of emulation in Najaf on Wednesday October 26.

During the meeting Ayatollah Najafi welcomed any attempt to support Iraqis in their ongoing fight against ISIS terrorists and added, “Iraq is currently fighting terrorism on behalf of the whole world, we stand firm in our battle against all those who seek to undermine Iraq’s sovereignty and this is the legitimate right of every nation to defend its territory,”

  Elsewhere in his remarks the Iraqi cleric stressed on the need to develop cooperation between Iraq and Japan in economic, agricultural as well as industrial areas adding, “Iraqi sources of emulations supports any attempt to increase the international ties which serve Iraqis' national interests,”

In the end of the meeting, Japanese ambassador also gave a brief report on his embassy’s activities in Iraq.
