Israel tightens closure, close only commercial crossing for Gaza
According to PCHR’s follow-up, on Monday, 10 August 2020, Israeli authorities announced the closure of Karm Abu Salem crossing starting from Tuesday, 11 August 2020, except for the transportation of goods for vital humanitarian cases and fuel. According to Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the decision was taken “in response to the launch of incendiary balloons and breaching security calm.”

Palestinian civilian shot and killed by IOF at checkpoint in Bethlehem
The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) stresses that the Israeli military used disproportionate force, especially considering the fact that the victim posed no real threat to the troops’ lives in light of the heavy fortifications at the checkpoint. This incident is yet another example of Israel’s systemic policy of shooting Palestinian civilians in a direct manner and as an immediate reaction.

Israeli forces continued to violate Palestinians’ human rights and commit crimes against civilians and their properties, conducting raids into Palestinian cities without regard to the state of emergency declared across the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 06 March 2020, in the efforts put forward to combat the spread of coronavirus.

PCHR welcomes the response of the International criminal court to move against Israel
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) welcomes the Prosecutor’s re-affirmation of her position that there is a reasonable basis to initiate an investigation into the situation in Palestine and that the Court has territorial jurisdiction over East Jerusalem, as well as the rest of the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.

Imprisonment conditions for Palestinians in Israeli jails do not meet the minimum international standards guaranteed under the international humanitarian law (IHL), as Israeli prisons provide inadequate living conditions, and they are crowded.

PCHR: Weekly report on Israeli human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (02 – 08 April 2020)
This week, PCHR documented 98 violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law (IHL) by IOF and settlers in the oPt. As the state of emergency enters its 5th week, as well as the extreme Israeli restrictions on movement of individuals, have hindered our fieldwork team’s ability to cover all incidents in the oPt and were forced to collect information via phone from trusted local sources.

PCHR condemns Israeli defense minister’s statements, stresses linking humanitarian aid to politics is unacceptable
PCHR considers that bargaining Palestinian civilians’ humanitarian needs for political gains is utterly unacceptable and condemned. PCHR reiterates that abusing civilian needs for gaining political ground is abhorrent, and warns that such a position could carry a direct threat to the lives of civilians in the Gaza Strip, as it could lead to a coronavirus outbreak.
