Hawzah News Agency, Mahdi al-Amiri, a member of parliament and head of the Badr bloc, said in an official statement: "The decision to close the Sheeb border crossing with Iran reflects clear confusion and chaos in government decision-making."
He noted that the move directly fuels commodity price increases and imposes a heavy burden on citizens with limited incomes.
Al-Amiri stated in the statement: "The justifications announced by the government regarding the crossing's 'lack of technical competence' are imprecise statements that have no connection to reality."
He emphasized that there is no technical or administrative defect that would justify the closure.
The Iraqi lawmaker also noted that "other motives and dimensions lie behind this decision" beyond technical issues.
The head of the Badr bloc concluded: "The Sheeb crossing is considered one of the country's vital economic arteries, and taking such ill-considered steps damages the competitiveness of Iraqi trade and weakens purchasing power in the domestic market."
