Iraq Must Not Be a Hostage to America: Political Analyst

Iraqi political analyst Moayad al-Alusi says the departure of foreign forces from Iraq is a positive step, but it does not amount to completing all the necessary measures for full sovereignty.

Hawzah News Agency- In an interview on Wednesday, al-Alusi stressed that Iraq's sovereignty must be complete and indivisible, encompassing its land, sea and airspace.

He noted that control over Iraqi airspace remains one of the most prominent issues still requiring resolution.

"Sovereignty must be real and indivisible — not the situation we face today, with the continued control of the United States and its aircraft over Iraqi skies," al-Alusi said. "Completing sovereignty requires that Iraq have decision-making authority in all domains."

He added: "Political and military decision-making must be unified, and these decisions must be national and originate from within Iraq itself — not be a hostage to the United States, because such dependency stands in direct contradiction to the project of sovereignty."

Al-Alusi noted that independence in decision-making is the foundation for building a state capable of protecting its national interests.

He explained that the United States, despite its long presence in Iraq, neither built an air defense system for the country nor established an air and defense force that Iraq could rely on.

He described this as evidence of Washington's desire to keep Iraq in a state of dependency on foreign support and presence.

The political analyst noted: "The exit of foreign forces from Iraq is a good step, but it does not mean all the necessary steps for achieving full sovereignty have been taken. The withdrawal of American forces is the result of attacks carried out by resistance groups and the sacrifices made over the past years."

Al-Alusi stressed the importance of building a national defense system capable of protecting Iraq's skies and territory, noting that Iraq can draw on military capabilities already present in the country — particularly the proven capabilities of resistance groups tested on the battlefield.
