Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, head of the Pakistan Shia Scholars Council, issued a message marking World Maritime Day (September 24), the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (September 26), and the International Day for Nuclear Disarmament (September 29).
He said World Maritime Day is an annual opportunity for the international community to emphasize the need to protect international waters and secure maritime routes — a matter that plays an important role in developing global trade, expanding economic cooperation, and creating more opportunities to improve the economic conditions of developing countries.
He added that in recent years, unfortunately, in addition to land, the seas have also been affected by warmongering and military conflicts, with significant negative consequences for the global economy. The continuation of aggressive, hegemonic, and expansionist approaches has posed a serious threat to global peace, the security of trade routes, and economic stability.
Referring to the international days related to nuclear disarmament, the Pakistan Shia Scholars Council chief said these occasions are being marked at a time when arrogant powers in the past inflicted irreparable damage on humanity and human civilization by using nuclear weapons and attacking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and today the nuclear program of a country that emphasizes the peaceful use of nuclear energy is the target of pressure and hostile measures.
He stressed that the peaceful use of nuclear energy is a fundamental right of all countries, and in contrast, countries that possess dangerous weapons and have used them or threatened to use them must be held accountable under international law and regulations.
Hojatoleslam Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi also stated that the absence of effective and deterrent measures against the nuclear program of the Zionist regime, alongside pressure and sanctions against countries with peaceful nuclear programs, clearly demonstrates double standards in the international community's conduct.
He warned that the continuation of a mindset based on the unbridled use of power and hegemonic policies will push the world toward a disaster whose consequences will not be limited to one region or country, and no part of the world will be safe from its effects.
The Pakistan Shia Scholars Council chief called on the United Nations and the international community not to limit the marking of these occasions to ceremonies and statements, but to use these opportunities to take practical measures against war, aggression, hegemony, and trends leading to destruction and annihilation.
He concluded by stressing that there is still an opportunity to correct course, and the international community, especially the United Nations, must use its capacities and influence to act for global peace, the protection of human rights, and ensuring the fair and equal implementation of international law for all countries.
