Hawzah News Agency- The office of the grand ayatollah, based in the holy city of Qom, said in the announcement that his "pure soul has passed into the presence of God."
Often referred to as a marja-e taqlid — a "source of emulation" for Shiite Muslims — Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani was a leading figure in the Iranian religious establishment and a prominent voice within the Najaf-Qom scholarly tradition. His office described his life as one of "deep reflection, continuous scholarly effort and sincere service" to Islamic jurisprudence and the promotion of religious knowledge.
The statement extended condolences to the anticipated Imam Mahdi (AS), as well as to Iran's seminaries, the Iranian people and his followers worldwide. It also praised his dedication to "preserving and elevating authentic Islamic jurisprudence" and his concern for the public.
The announcement said details of his funeral procession and burial would be released later.
