Hawzah News Agency- Speaking during the political sermon of the Friday prayers on September 18, 2026, Ayatollah Mousavi addressed regional and global developments, saying that religious and national duty requires one to speak the truth and stand against oppression.
Referring to what he described as rivalry and confrontation between different axes in the region, he added that one axis comprises the United States and its allies, while the other is the Axis of Resistance, which supports oppressed nations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Bahrain, and other regions.
The Baghdad Friday prayer leader criticized the performance of various Iraqi governments, particularly the current one, stating that the Iraqi government has moved away from a position of neutrality and tilted toward the US axis, and that some official positions and statements are incompatible with defending the interests of the Iraqi people and sovereignty.
Ayatollah Mousavi also expressed doubt about Washington’s ability to establish stability in the region, saying that US wars and interventions in the region and the world show that genuine stability comes through peace and upholding the rights of nations, not through military bases and political domination.
Criticizing the reliance of some Persian Gulf states on US military bases, he added that these bases have not provided those countries with the security they expected and have instead contributed to the continuation of regional tensions.
The Baghdad Friday prayer leader further addressed the war in Yemen and America’s role in supporting Saudi policies, warning against the consequences of the US military presence and interventions in the region.
Ayatollah Mousavi also warned against leveling accusations at the resistance in Iraq, saying that resistance groups cannot be accused without providing evidence and documentation.
The prominent Najaf seminary professor, reacting to government statements about missiles being fired from Iraqi territory toward Saudi Arabia, called for a precise investigation into the matter before issuing statements or taking hasty decisions.
The Baghdad Friday prayer leader also criticized the closure of Iraq’s borders with Iran, saying the decision has created numerous problems for Iraqi pilgrims, particularly women, children, and the elderly.
In another part of his remarks, he stressed the need to protect Iraq’s interests in the oil, gas, and electricity sectors, saying that Iranian gas plays a role in supplying Iraq’s energy and that cutting economic cooperation could harm low-income and needy groups.
Ayatollah Mousavi also pointed to the economic consequences of the border closures, saying the move has raised the prices of goods and harmed merchants and citizens.
In conclusion, the Baghdad Friday prayer leader called on the Iraqi government and the Coordination Framework coalition to fulfill their responsibility toward the rights of the people and to avoid unjust decisions and attempts to impose military control.
He stressed that establishing a just government requires proper management, respect for citizens’ rights, and prioritizing national interests over foreign dependence.
