Hawzah News Agency- According to Mir'at al-Bahrain news outlet, the latest wave of state-sponsored persecution targets Shias through the manipulation of their religious institutions, with the regime seeking to strip Hussainiyas — Shia religious centers — of their authentic spirit and turn them into instruments of state control.
Every religious group has the right to its own beliefs, rituals, and institutions, even if others consider those beliefs beyond reason. What is truly beyond reason today, however, is the conduct of Bahrain's repressive sectarian government against the country's Shia population.
The Al-Khalifa regime's management of Shia religious endowments has now crossed all religious red lines, disregarding established tenets of the faith. The latest endowment administration statement has exposed the government's future project: manipulating Shia religious identity and seizing control of its exclusive religious spaces.
At the heart of this scheme is an attempt to hand over the appointment of Hussainiya administrators to the national intelligence apparatus.
Observers are well aware that the endowment body lacks any legitimacy to appoint heads or board members of Hussainiyas, having been reduced to a mere front for the interior ministry. The regime has long sought to plant undercover agents and informants within the management of these religious centers to execute its directives.
The objective is clear: strip Hussainiyas of the spirit of Imam Hussein's (AS) uprising, remove the teachings of the Prophet's household from these sacred spaces, and ultimately push the Shia community toward reconciliation with the very forces that Imam Hussein (AS) stood against — a trajectory that leads to normalization with the United States and Israel.
The scheme represents the latest escalation in Manama's decades-long crackdown on Shia religious freedom, which has included arbitrary arrests, citizenship revocations, mosque demolitions, and the systematic marginalization of the majority community from political and economic life.
Rights groups have repeatedly condemned Bahrain's treatment of its Shia population, citing torture in detention facilities, unfair trials, and the suppression of peaceful dissent. The targeting of religious institutions marks a dangerous new phase in this campaign, striking at the heart of Shia communal identity and worship.
