Kashmir Shia Leader: Imam Hassan's Peace Treaty Remains a Lasting Model for Muslim Unity

Mourning gatherings were held across Jammu and Kashmir to mark the passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS), organized by the Shia Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

Hawzah News Agency – The head of the Shia Association of Jammu and Kashmir says the peace treaty of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS) was a strategic decision to preserve the faith, prevent the collapse of the Islamic Ummah, and end internal divisions — a model that remains relevant for Muslim unity and insight today.

Mourning gatherings were held across Jammu and Kashmir to mark the passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS), organized by the Shia Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

Prophet's Passing: A Wound That Never Heals

Addressing the gatherings, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hassan Mousavi described the loss of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a heart-wrenching and unforgettable event for the Islamic Ummah. He said the weeping and mourning of Muslims on this anniversary reflects their deep love, devotion, and profound heart connection to the Messenger of God.

He stressed that mourning the Prophet's passing in no way denies his spiritual station or continued presence, but rather expresses the deep affection Muslims hold for the Prophet of Mercy and their loyalty to his teachings and way of life.

A Decision Rooted in Wisdom, Not Weakness

Discussing the life of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS), Mousavi pointed to the sensitive conditions of his Imamate, noting that the Imam relinquished outward power and position to protect the religion, safeguard the Ummah, and prevent the spread of a devastating internal conflict.

"In that era, Muslim society was gripped by division and factionalism. Muslims had lined up against one another. Under such difficult circumstances, Imam Hassan's decision was based on the public interest of the Ummah, the preservation of the foundations of the faith, and the prevention of the collapse of Muslim unity," he said.

The Shia leader said the difficult stages of Imam Hassan's life demonstrate that he always adopted positions appropriate to the interests of Islam, with a precise understanding of the demands of his time. Despite immense pressure, opposition, and hardship, he never abandoned his religious principles.

A Timeless Blueprint for Today's Muslims

Mousavi rejected framing the peace treaty as a mere historical event, describing it instead as an enduring model for Muslims in all eras.

"Imam Hassan's peace is a lasting guide for the Islamic Ummah in preserving unity, strengthening brotherhood, enhancing insight, and safeguarding the faith and public interests of society," he said.

Concluding his remarks, he stressed that the Muslim world today needs unity, empathy, insight, and avoidance of division more than ever. The teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Ahlulbayt (AS), he said, serve as a beacon for Muslims to overcome challenges and preserve the dignity and cohesion of the Islamic Ummah.

The gatherings concluded with elegies, lamentations, and mourning rituals in remembrance of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS).
