Hawzah News Agency- In an atmosphere heavy with grief, love, and devotion, a large gathering of Shia Muslims in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, held a solemn procession to mourn the passing of the Holy Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa (PBUH). The event was organized to keep the Prophet's memory alive, revisit his noble life and teachings, and convey the divine and human message of Islam to the world.
The procession, held on the 28th of Safar 1448 AH, was organized by the Imam Sadiq Seminary in cooperation with the Tanzania Twelver Shia Community (TIC). Hundreds of believers and devotees of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) from across Dar es Salaam took part.
The march began in the Ilala Boma area, proceeded along Msimbazi Street toward the Mbuyuni intersection, and concluded at the Ghadir Mosque, located at the TIC's central headquarters.
The event was led by the Chief Sheikh of Tanzania's Shia community, Maulana Hamid Jalala Mwakindengeh. He was joined at the front of the procession by other scholars, clerics, and religious figures, in a display of deep mourning, reverence, and love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Also in attendance were a number of dignitaries, among them the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Cultural Center in Tanzania, along with a group of clerics and other religious and social figures.
The broad participation of believers from diverse backgrounds reflected a spirit of unity and solidarity among Tanzanian Shias in honoring the memory and legacy of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and underscored the importance of remaining steadfast in adherence to his teachings.
"This Is Muhammad, the Messenger of God"
The central slogan of the procession was "This is Muhammad (PBUH), the Messenger of God"—a call chosen to introduce the personality of the Prophet of Islam to the wider community and to revisit the various dimensions of his life, character, virtues, and outstanding qualities.
The slogan also served as a reminder of the immense hardships, trials, and challenges the Holy Prophet endured in delivering the divine message to humanity.
At the same time, it carried a vital message for the faithful: that honoring the Prophet goes beyond words and expressions of affection. The truest form of reverence lies in following his way of life, adhering to his teachings, and putting those teachings into practice in daily life.
Elegies of Grief Fill the Air
As part of the ceremony, and to imbue the event with a deeply emotional and spiritual atmosphere, mournful elegies and laments were performed under the direction of Sheikh Idi Wambua, joined by the voices of the grieving faithful.
These elegies, which resounded along the entire route, intensified the somber mood of the occasion and stirred feelings of love and devotion to the Prophet among the participants. With heavy hearts and sorrowful faces, the mourners grieved the passing of the final Messenger of God.
The procession was part of the Tanzanian faithful's ongoing efforts to keep alive the memory and name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa (PBUH). Beyond honoring his legacy, the event served as a reminder of the responsibility Muslims bear in spreading the message of faith, noble character, unity, mercy, and justice throughout society.
