Hawzah News Agency – Prominent Italian journalist Marco Travaglio has issued a scathing critique of Western double standards regarding international law, drawing a sharp contrast between reactions to the Russian offensive in Ukraine and the West's stance on Iran's response to United States aggression.
In a widely circulated video, Travaglio, one of Italy's most recognized and outspoken journalists, exposes the hypocrisy embedded in Western foreign policy with unmistakable clarity, calling into question the very foundations of the so-called rules-based international order.
"International Law for All, or for No One"
Travaglio directly addresses the staggering contradiction:
"In 2022, the President of the European Parliament condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine. But today, the very same institution labels Iran's response to United States attacks as 'unjustifiable and unforgivable' and demands de-escalation—not from the aggressor, but from the very country that was the target of aggression."
He continues: "So, if the United States and Israel trample upon the ABCs of international law, it is deemed acceptable. But if the country that has been subjected to aggression exercises its right to respond, it suddenly becomes an unforgivable sin."
Travaglio's verdict cuts to the core of the Western-led geopolitical narrative: "Either international law must be applied equally to all, or it holds no validity whatsoever for anyone."
