Hawzah News Agency- The fact that Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim has broken his silence to declare that the fate of the Shia faith in Bahrain faces an existential threat means that this segment of Bahraini society is under a relentless, merciless, and systematic war of annihilation. The situation has reached an exceedingly dangerous stage; this is no simple "removal" but rather a full-scale sectarian purge. The level of pressure imposed on the community through official policies has reached a point where silence is no longer permissible. The matter has gone far beyond containment and siege, and has now escalated into a direct assault on the religious and social identity of this community.
The unprecedented campaign of repression targeting virtuous scholars inside Bahraini prisons, exposed by the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, is unbearable for any sound mind. These actions are not isolated violations or administrative errors, but organized sectarian crimes directed from the highest echelons of power—crimes of a kind Bahrain has never before witnessed.
What is certain is that Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa bears direct responsibility for the well-being of all detained scholars. Any failure to halt these crimes, or any continuation of policies of collective punishment and humiliation, will only deepen internal divisions and fuel public outrage. States are not governed by crushing or humiliating opponents, but through justice, the rule of law, and respect for human dignity.
The most dangerous course the ruling establishment can take is to imagine that an iron fist can resolve a crisis with religious and national dimensions. The more the circle of rights violations widens, and the more citizens feel that their identity and rights are being targeted, the heavier the cost of this crisis will be for the entire society.
This file now demands urgent international intervention and engagement from human rights organizations—intervention that does not accept the claims of Bahrain's king about "peaceful coexistence" or his "false tolerance" as established facts. These deceptions no longer convince any foreign official or human rights observer, East or West. This is a humanitarian and human rights crisis requiring the formation of an independent investigation committee, serious international monitoring, and genuine accountability. It cannot rely on official narratives or media campaigns designed to whitewash reality.
The international community and human rights bodies are obligated to act in accordance with international standards, examine events on the ground, and enforce compliance with human rights commitments, particularly with regard to the protection of prisoners and their dignity.
It is also no longer acceptable for Bahrain to be viewed solely through a sanitized official image marketed at international conferences while demands for investigation into human rights cases continue to mount. Credibility is not built through propagandistic speeches, but through transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. If the ruling establishment is confident in its own narrative, the natural path forward is to open its doors to independent fact-finding mechanisms. Any delay in doing so only serves to confirm the regime's crimes and places this file on the agenda of international organizations.
At the Islamic level as well, it is now incumbent upon prominent figures across the Muslim and Arab world to form a pressure bloc to rescue the detainees from this operation of "gradual elimination." They must uphold their moral and humanitarian responsibility, raise their voices to protect the detainees and guarantee their safety and dignity, and press for independent investigations into the violations committed. When the matter concerns clerics and scholars who hold religious and social standing, silence does not signify neutrality, but may rather be interpreted as a failure to fulfill one’s duty at a critical moment.
At a time when concerns over human rights violations are mounting, issuing statements alone is not enough. What is required is organized action that brings together religious institutions, legal bodies, and influential figures to defend the rights of detainees using all available tools of pressure. Issues touching upon human sanctity and fundamental rights must not remain confined to a local matter, but rather require broad and responsible solidarity to contain what the Al Khalifa regime has recently perpetrated against everything related to the Shia community in Bahrain.
