"Arbaeen Begins: Nigeria Mourners Take to the Streets"

Hundreds of Shia faithful and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, led by Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, have held the first Arbaeen procession of the year 2026 in the Birnin Kudu area of Jigawa State.

Hawzah News Agency- The march took place on Saturday, the third of Safar, with a massive turnout of Husseini mourners in Birnin Kudu, located in northern Nigeria's Jigawa State.

The procession set off from two main routes. The first began from the Babaldu miqat, drawing mourners from the towns and villages of Sara, Samamiya, Tsangarwa, Kiyako, Babaldu, Budinga, and surrounding areas before converging on Birnin Kudu. The second route launched from the Tsamiya miqat, with participants from Birnin Kudu, Igi, Yalwan Damai, Kafin Gana, Kangire, and neighboring localities.

Dressed in black and carrying flags and portraits of towering resistance figures — including Imam Khomeini, Grand Ayatollah Imam Khamenei, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and other leaders of the resistance — the mourners recited elegies and lamentations in tribute to the martyrs of Karbala and the sufferings of the Prophet's Household following the tragedy of Ashura.

The event concluded peacefully and in an orderly fashion, with residents of towns and villages along the route lining the streets to welcome the mourners and express solidarity.

The Birnin Kudu march marks the first Arbaeen procession of 2026 in Nigeria, with similar observances expected across the country in the coming days. According to the announced schedule, the culminating Arbaeen ceremony will be held in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
