Ayatollah Modarresi Yazdi Urges National Cohesion, Resistance, and Obedience to Leadership

In a message issued on the eve of the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Reza Modarresi Tabatabaei Yazdi, member of the jurists of the Guardian Council, outlined the foremost duties of the people and officials: a massive public turnout, unwavering commitment to the legacy of the leadership, preservation of deterrence capability, and vigilance against the enemy.

Hawzah News Agency- Ayatollah Modarresi Yazdi released a 14-point message entitled "Important Points and Recommendations" ahead of the glorious funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The text of the message reads as follows:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

On the eve of the funeral of the great commander of the Islamic Ummah and the martyred Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, I recall certain important points:

  1. By the grace and favor of God, it is hoped that the people, through their multimillion-strong presence, will blind the eyes of the malevolent enemies and display to the entire world the power and majesty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the country of Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), and the system of Wilayat al-Faqih with the utmost solidity.
  2. Those who, during the leadership of the great commander, fell short in rendering his due as the Guardian of the Affairs and Leader of the system—and who even obstructed the path of that great figure, embroiling him and the country in seditions and difficulties—let them know that the doors of divine mercy remain open. Let them, like Hurr ibn Yazid al-Riyahi, turn back from their false path. Should they offer sincere repentance, it is hoped that God, the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful, shall accept it, and the lofty soul of this martyred Leader and the oppressed Seyyed shall forgive them, granting them a goodly end.
  3. The martyred Leader, through his writings, speeches, and the senior management of the nation, bequeathed treasured legacies for all at every level. The people and the system must derive the greatest benefit from them across all strata, and not a single strategy of this great man should fall into neglect.
  4. The very obedience and compliance that existed toward the late Imam [Khomeini] and the martyred Leader must now also be extended to the august Leader, Hazrat Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei. This is a religious and legal duty, and deviation from it brings naught but loss and damage.
  5. It is incumbent upon the esteemed three branches of government—particularly the executive branch—to concentrate all their efforts on implementing the policies and decrees of the august Leader. God forbid that, through the exercise of certain incongruities or improper methods, the objectives envisioned by the Leadership should be left unrealized.
  6. Let the esteemed officials in all layers of the country's management know—as indeed they do—that any weakness or unwarranted consideration will further embolden the vicious, bloodthirsty American-Zionist enemy. Nothing but a resolute and courageous will, combined with vigilant action, shall drive back these enemies whose history began and has continued with crime and murder.
  7. If in the Crusader wars against the Islamic world it was only the Crusaders who committed atrocities, today the Crusaders and the Zionists—who only yesterday were enemies of one another—have made common cause. They have assaulted the Islamic world, and particularly Islamic Iran, with the most barbaric warfare. Our victory against them shall be far greater than the victory against the Crusaders.
  8. Let our people and officials know that the definitive divine promise is the triumph of the believers. Let them not allow the slightest fear to creep into their hearts when confronting the treacherous, ruthless enemies. Rather, with trust in God Almighty and through prudence and self-sacrifice, let them defend the nation. Let them not cease their struggle—their jihad in the path of God and defense of the people and the country—until the enemy is brought to its knees. The great people and the dear combatants must not allow any weakening or slackening, for jihad in the path of God, though it entails costs, will assuredly bear fruits far, far more precious.
  9. The enemy seeks to compensate for its failures on the battlefield through negotiations; it has no other objective, and it has accumulated vast experience along this path. Therefore, officials must exercise vigilance tenfold, even a hundredfold, against these fox-like creatures. Let them know that even supposing they succeed in recording something on paper beneficial to the nation from the enemy, so long as it is not backed by the live operational power of the Armed Forces, it will be violated by the treacherous, covenant-breaking enemy and its backers. Its existence or nonexistence in a treaty or agreement shall have no practical effect, save as a tool to counter the enemy's propaganda in certain instances.
  10. Let the officials, particularly the esteemed officials of the executive branch, know that misplaced fear in administering the country inflicts greater damage upon the nation. Steadfastness and a courageous, prudent response to the enemy more assuredly preserve the interests of the people and the country and will more swiftly drive back the rapacious enemy.
  11. The mediators of negotiations are by no means neutral. Openly and covertly, at critical junctures, they take the side of the enemy. This, too, demands redoubled vigilance. Any negligence may lead to serious harm to the interests of the people and the country. In particular, thanking them without proper gratitude toward the peoples of those nations—who have been and remain the defenders of Islamic Iran against America and the Zionist regime and who have paid a price along this path—is contrary to prudence and fairness.
  12. Leaving the global internet network unrestricted, without precise expert considerations from committed specialists, under various pretexts that cannot compensate for the accompanying damage—such as claims that people's businesses suffer, or that it is a right of the people, or that it contradicts the respected President's electoral promises—is an exceedingly dangerous act. It places the country's economy, the job security of the people, the security of commercial transactions, the security of vital national institutions, the security of influential personalities of the system, and the psychological well-being of various strata—particularly adolescents and the youth—directly in the crosshairs of the American-Zionist enemy. Individual preferences must be rigorously avoided in this domain; it must be pursued exclusively through religious and legal policy-making and executive channels. The creation of obstructive parallel procedures must be strictly refrained from. Otherwise, God forbid, with gaps left open in the network, we shall witness the facilitation of the spread and repetition of the manifest disruptions witnessed in recent days.
  13. The aggressive and treacherous enemies will deploy their full might to challenge the Islamic Republic's control over the Strait of Hormuz, for they know that this vital waterway is Iran's immensely powerful lever for reining in their limitless crimes. Officials must know—as they presumably do—that preserving this lever, however costly, is certainly far less costly than losing it in the future. This is a clear matter that requires no profound political or military understanding, and, God willing, the esteemed officials shall not fall into any negligence.
  14. The final point whose recollection is necessary at this juncture is that the strength of the Resistance Front, with Islamic Iran at its axis, must be preserved. The enemy must not be allowed to create any rift in this front. Officials must address this matter with full vigilance across all political, military, and diplomatic domains. In particular, heightened vigilance and resistance are needed regarding Hezbollah and southern Lebanon. The enemy has tested the might of Hezbollah and the people of southern Lebanon and has sustained very serious damage. It will by no means relent in its confrontation with these people unless it knows that far more severe harm awaits it.

May God Almighty grant all of us greater success in fulfilling our duties, and may He annihilate the enemies, for the sake of Muhammad and his pure progeny (peace be upon them).

With prayers requested,

Seyyed Mohammad Reza Modarresi
