Hawzah News Agency- As the days of mourning for the Master of Martyrs, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), continue, followers of the Ahl al-Bayt and devoted students of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub Zakzaky, have taken to the streets in the opening days of Muharram 1448 (June 2026), staging mourning processions and holding lamentation gatherings to keep the sacrifice of Karbala alive on the African continent.
Reports indicate that the central theme of the fourth day of Muharram programs has been to illuminate the oppression suffered by the six-month-old martyr of Karbala and to renew a pledge of steadfastness on the path of martyrdom.
1. Kano: Wailing and Lamentation Engulf the City
According to reports from Kano, a magnificent mourning ceremony marking the Day of Hazrat Abdullah al-Radhi was held in the city. Following the opening of the gathering with prayers by Mallam Sambo Sokoto and Quranic recitation by young Mallam Aminu Dawanau, members of the "Ittihad" group, led by Mallam Abdurrahman Kazawre, performed rhythmic chest-beating.
A theatrical reenactment of the Karbala tragedy and ritualistic performances by youth shook the hearts of attendees, drawing tears from all present. Among the day's programs, a photo exhibition was set up displaying images of the students of the Minab school in the Islamic Republic of Iran — children bombed by the United States and Israel — laying bare the nature of the Yazidis of the present age.
In his keynote address, Mr. Mustafa Gadon Kaya (Mustafa Umar Baba) declared: "Even in the age of ignorance, Arabs would not sever the head of an infant in war. Yet in Karbala, the oppressors of the Banu Umayya, through Hurmala's poisoned arrow to the throat of a thirsty infant, trampled upon every human right."
Following this, Sheikh Dr. Sanusi Abdulkadir Kuki, the representative of Shias in the Kano region, underscored: "We are prepared to sacrifice all of our children in the path of Abdullah al-Radhi."
2. Zaria: The Steadfastness of Hazrat Rubab Honored at Fodiya School
Reports from the city of Zaria — the scholarly and religious hub of the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt in Nigeria — reveal that a major gathering of Ashura mothers was convened at the Fodiya Islamic Seminary, located in the Babban Dodo district.
At the ceremony, which drew an overwhelming turnout of families, Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello, the representative of Sheikh Zakzaky's students in the Zaria region, delivered the main address. A deeply moving feature of the gathering was the sight of mothers cradling their infants, clad in green garments bearing the inscription "Ya Hussein," weeping and wailing in unison with the tribulations of Hazrat Rubab (peace be upon her). Raising their newborns aloft, the Nigerian mothers declared their readiness to sacrifice their most cherished possessions in defense of true Islam.
3. Gombe: The Umayyad Violation of Human Rights and Laws of War
In the city of Gombe, the third day of mourning was observed with fervent public participation. Sheikh Muhammad Abara, a prominent Nigerian scholar, addressed the gathering by detailing the crime perpetrated against Abdullah al-Radhi and elaborating on the military codes and principles of warfare in Islam.
Stressing that the oppressors of the Umayyad dynasty turned the darkest page of inhumanity by shooting an arrow at a defenseless, thirsty infant, Sheikh Abara addressed the mothers directly: "If you see your children standing up against the oppressors and tyrants of the age, take the great sacrifice of Sayyid al-Shuhada — offering his infant on the plains of Karbala — as your model."
4. Sara: A Cry for Justice and the Fight Against Oppression
Simultaneously, believers and followers in the town of Sara, Jigawa State, gathered on the fourth day of mourning for Imam Hussein (PBUH) to hear the recounting of the tribulations of the purified household. Mallam Imam Zakariyya, the speaker at the ceremony, recounted the crime of Hurmala in targeting the throat of Abdullah al-Radhi with a three-pronged arrow, exposing the depth of brutality displayed by the enemies of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT).
Following the mourning and chest-beating, participants in this religious gathering reaffirmed their loyalty to the principles of justice-seeking, patience, perseverance, and the struggle against all oppressors the world over, under the leadership of Sayyid Zakzaky.
Prayers for the Victory of Islam and the Health of the Movement's Leader
These blessed gatherings, conducted with discipline and profound spirituality across various regions of Nigeria, concluded with congregational prayers and supplication. Those present raised their hands in prayer for the hastened reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his advent), for the victory and honor of Islam and Muslims worldwide, and for the health and blessed longevity of the great reformer of Africa, Sayyid Ibrahim Zakzaky, as well as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyid Mujtaba Khamenei. They also prayed for the success of the resistance factions across the region.
