Hawzah News Agency- According to a report by the EFE news agency, the activists stated that Israeli soldiers assaulted passengers during the vessel’s capture and subjected detainees to physical and psychological abuse.
Dr. Cássio Pelegrini, a pediatrician and flotilla member, revealed during a press conference that several detainees suffered sexual violence while in Israeli custody.
Pelegrini highlighted that recent videos released by Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir expose only a fraction of the degrading treatment, noting that clear signs of abuse remain visible even in those selectively published clips.
Following the release of the footage, the Brazilian government summoned Israel’s chargé d'affaires in Brasilia to lodge an official protest against the “degrading and humiliating” treatment of its citizens.
“If Israel treats international citizens with such brutality, one can only imagine what Palestinians are subjected to daily,” Pelegrini stated.
Despite the ordeal, the Brazilian human rights advocates vowed to continue their maritime missions to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Diplomatic ties between Brazil and Israel have declined to historic lows since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. Brazilian President Lula da Silva has repeatedly condemned the military offensive as a “genocide,” prompting Israel to declare him persona non grata.
