"We write to you today with sorrowful hearts to express our deepest sympathy and steadfast solidarity with you, with our university colleagues, and with the people of Iran in these extraordinarily difficult days," the academics wrote.
The signatories condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure and cultural sites, emphasizing their grave concern over reports of strikes targeting elementary schools, hospitals, ambulances, sports complexes, historical monuments, and cultural places.
Iran's Civilizational Legacy Defended
The Mexican professors highlighted Iran's unparalleled historical significance, describing the nation as the birthplace of one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations whose intellectual and cultural contributions have profoundly shaped human history over millennia.
"The targeting of such institutions constitutes a direct violation of international law and the fundamental principles of global peace and security," the letter asserted.
International Law Violations Condemned
Drawing on data from organizations including UNICEF and the World Health Organization, the academics firmly condemned the destruction of spaces dedicated to human life, education, and welfare.
"In this era of unjustified wars and unprovoked aggression, the global academic community must stand united," they declared.
Right to Self-Defense Affirmed
The professors explicitly affirmed their support for the Iranian people's right to legitimate defense, national sovereignty, and protection of their rich cultural and historical heritage.
"Please know that you are not alone in these dark hours. Our support, our prayers for the victims, and our renewed hope for a swift return to peace and justice are with you," the letter concluded.
The solidarity message represents growing international academic opposition to the military aggression against Iran, with scholars worldwide increasingly speaking out against what they characterize as violations of international law and attacks on civilian populations.
