First Regional Meeting of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Held in Malaysia

The first regional meeting of members of the General Assembly of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the participation of prominent Muslim scholars, intellectuals, and thinkers from Southeast Asia.

Hawzah News Agency- the meeting brought together representatives from Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Participants underscored the urgent need to strengthen unity, solidarity, and convergence within the Muslim world amid current regional and global challenges.

During the session, Hojatoleslam Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, presented the forum’s seven-point strategic document. Centered on the theme of the “Islamic Ummah and a unified civilizational identity,” the document emphasizes scientific leadership of the Ummah, elite networking, joint knowledge production, reduction of sectarian differences, countering takfiri and extremist currents, social empowerment, the role of media and art, and institutional and civilizational convergence across the Islamic world.

The meeting also witnessed the selection of fifteen scholars and intellectuals as new members of the General Assembly of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

Mohammad Azmi Abdul Hamid, Chairman of the Consultative Council of the Malaysian Islamic Organization, addressed the gathering, stressing that rapprochement among Islamic schools of thought is not a temporary or situational necessity but a religious obligation and a shared responsibility for all Muslims.

Molavi Eshaq Madani, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and a prominent Sunni scholar, highlighted the pivotal role of religious scholars in consolidating Islamic unity. He called for the expansion of constructive dialogue, mutual respect among Islamic denominations, and firm resistance against extremist and divisive movements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Hojatoleslam Shahriari, in an official decree, appointed Dr. Habib Reza Arzani, Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Malaysia, as the first regional representative of the General Assembly of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in Southeast Asia.

The meeting was held with the aim of enhancing scientific and cultural cooperation and expanding the discourse of unity and rapprochement across the Muslim world.
