Greed: The Silent Destroyer of Faith

Hadith of the Day is a daily feature highlighting timeless sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), offering insights into faith, ethics, and spirituality for contemporary life.

Hawzah News Agency- Muhammad ibn al-Hassan narrated that Abdullah ibn Ja’far al-Homayry narrated from Harun ibn Muslim, from Mus’adat ibn Sadaqah, from Imam Sadiq (pbuh), from his father (pbuh) that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said:

ما مَحَقَ الإيمانَ مَحقَ الشُّحِّ شَيءٌ ، ثُمّ قالَ : إنّ لِهذا الشُّحِّ دَبيبا كَدَبِيبِ النَّملِ و شُعَبا كَشُعَبِ الشِّركِ.

Nothing ruins faith as much as greed does.

Then he continued: Greed has a crawling similar to the crawling of ants, and it has branches similar to the branches of polytheism.

Al-Khisal,Book 2,Chapter 83
