Hawzah News Agency - Hundreds of Muslims came together yesterday at Churchill Park in Lautoka to commemorate the national Milad-Un-Nabi Jalsa hosted by the Fiji Muslim League.
The annual event celebrated the life of Prophet Mohammed. Joining the celebrations was European Union ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific, Sujiro Seam who paid tribute to the life of the prophet who inspired a global movement.
“It would be remiss of me not to praise Prophet Mohammed,” he said.
Mr Seam said even though he was not a believer, Prophet Mohammed could be revered as “the author of a moral code, as a social reformer, as a teacher, as a father, as a husband and as a friend.”
“So whether or not you are Muslim, I think we can all take him as a role model who shows how we have to behave during our time on this earth to make this world a better place.”
Mr Seam said while Europe and Islam have not had an easy history, there had been a lot of progress in their relationship.
Today, our relationship between the European Union and Islam is settled.
“It is peaceful.
“It is amicable and it is based on two pillars which are freedom of religion, which is a human right, and the second pillar is dialogue by looking for peaceful resolutions.”
