Attacks on Muslims as murdered teacher is mourned

Two Muslim women in Paris have been stabbed repeatedly in a suspected racist attack as tensions run high less than a week after a teacher was beheaded.

Hawzah News Agency - Two muslim women in Paris have been stabbed repeatedly in a suspected racist attack as tensions run high less than a week after a teacher was beheaded.

The victims, described as French citizens of Algerian background, are said to have got into a row with two dog walkers under the Eiffel Tower when one attacker allegedly shouted: ‘Dirty Arab.’

One of the victims, Kenza, 49, was stabbed six times and taken to hospital with a punctured lung. The other, Amel, who is a few years older, needed surgery on her hand.

Kenza said she was in a group of five adults and four children in a park when they were approached by two dogs on Sunday.

A row broke out when their owners refused to put them on a lead. ‘One of the two took out a knife, she slashed me on the skull, on the back on the ribs and there was a third blow on the arm,’ said Kenza. ‘They then attacked my cousin.’

Two women, described as white, have been arrested for attempted murder.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 people gathered outside the school in northern Paris where teacher Samuel Paty was killed.

Mr Paty, 47, was killed on Friday by Abdullakh Anzarov, 18, for showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in class. Anzarov was shot by police.

French president Emmanuel Macron said domestic Islamist militants the Cheikh Yassine Collective was ‘directly implicated’ and has been dissolved. A mosque criticising the teacher has also been closed.

Sixteen people have been held for the murder, including relatives of the killer, and five students at Mr Paty’s school.
