Hawzah News Agency (Birmingham, UK) – At the beginning of the meeting which was held on Monday, May 8, some Quranic verses were recited; later, the members of the council reported on their activities during the last year and discussed their agenda for next year's meeting and voted for their future plans.
Heads of the Islamic centers in England also expressed some statistics on the Shia population in the UK; these numbers of Shias are in touch with more than 50 Islamic centers throughout the UK.
At the end of the meeting, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mortadha Kashmiri, Ayatollah Sistani's representative in UK and head of London's Imam Ali Islamic center, delivered a speech in which he expressed happiness for attending such meeting and said, " Holding such meetings in which Muslim scholars and activists in the West gather to discuss Islamic issues is a major concern of Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani since he believes such gatherings bear great results for all Muslim communities in the West."
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hujjat al-Islam Kashmiri stressed the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah and slammed any sectarian measure that causes conflict among Muslims; "The common purpose of all Islamic centers is to serve the Muslim Ummah and to raise children according to Ahlubayt's (as) doctrine. This is one of our greatest responsibilities."
