Grand Ayat. Makarem receives President of Indonesia’s Advisory Council

Expressing his readiness to cooperate with Indonesian officials on any level, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi asserted, “Our religious brothers in Indonesia must be aware of the threat of division and sectarianism caused by Wahhabi Takfiris,”

Hawzah News Agency- Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, a Shia source of emulation, received Zulfi Hassan, President of Indonesia’s advisory council in Imam al-Sajjad (as) Seminary in Qom, on Tuesday, December 6. During the meeting the senior cleric said, “Your presence in this meeting provides an opportunity to discuss important issues as we respect Indonesia as the most populated Islamic country,”

“There are many moderate Muslims in Indonesia, but recently Takfiri Wahhabis are posing a threat to the entire Muslim world as well as Indonesia,” said Grand Ayatollah Makarem.

“We’ve conducted numerous researchs on the origins of Takfirism and have realized that Wahhabism is the source of such thought; We have gathered as many as 80 documents to support our claim; what matters now is for Muslims to unite in order to stand up against these threats,”

The senior cleric further stated, “A conference was held in Chechnya, Russia recently in which many Sunni and Shia scholars participated and they all issued a statement unanimously declaring that Wahhabism is not considered an Islamic sect; It’s likely that some Wahhabis separate themselves from Takfiris and their radical thoughts, that’s not our concern; the problems is that Wahhabi Takfirism is currently being promoted in the world and that poses a major threat.”

“Shi’ism is standing in the front lines of battle against Takfirism; we even held two international conferences in Iran a few years ago and invited scholars from 80 Islamic countries to attend the event. This proves the fact that Shia Islam is holding the flag of fight against Takfirism.”

In the end Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi concluded, “Developing cooperation between two Muslim countries of Iran and Indonesia will result in providing solutions to current problems in the Islamic world; we are willing to cooperate with Indonesia in any way possible,”
