Hawzah News Agency-Mainstream media has always had the tendency to sensationalize its reporting on terror, particularly when there are Muslims involved and there is a fairly common occurrence in the United States, Europe, and the rest of the Western world.
The complete lack of coverage of the two-day Arbaeen’s march, where millions of Muslims participated in the annual Arbaeen Procession in Karbala takes biased reporting to a whole new level. The marchers who have come from over 60 countries, and with many of them walking all the way to Karbala from other Iraqi cities like Najaf and Baghdad in a show of devotion.
Each year, Sunni Muslims and followers of other religious groups join the Arbaeen procession to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in 680AD. He is honored for refusing to swear allegiance to the tyrant caliph of the Umayyad dynasty.
The Arbaeen march this year has become a rallying cry for the campaign against terrorism in all forms, especially among Muslims who have been the hardest hit by these attacks.
While mainstream media tend to focus on the high profile bombings in Paris, London, New York, and the other capitals of Westerns nations, thousands of Muslims in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan suffer and die as a direct result of the war on terror.
Iraqi troops have been deployed to ensure security for the pilgrims during the Arbaeen march. While some parts of the country continue to be plagued with violence and terrorism, this has not dissuaded pilgrims from around the world from making the journey, and making their voices heard with our without the help of mainstream media.
