Canadian art exhibit highlights female empowerment in Islam

Two Canadian artists from Mississauga, Ontario have partnered for an exhibit of their artwork to draw attention to the empowerment of women in Islam.

Uzma Bilal and Khaula Mazhar’s exhibition, titled Women: Unwitting Warriors, will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the White Studio of Visual Arts Mississauga, 4170 Riverwood Park Lane.

“Through our art, we want to convey a message that there is no oppression and women empowerment is an important aspect in Islam,” said Bilal.

Both Bilal and Mazhar have exhibited their work in MuslimFest and have won people’s and judges’ choice awards.

Showcasing more than 25 art pieces, the exhibition features contemporary calligraphy, paintings and variety of other artwork.

The event also provides networking opportunity and features lucky draws and refreshments.
