Hawzah News Agency-Two suspected Boko Haram male suicide bombers attacked a mosque in Damboa town of Borno State, killing nine worshipers and injured 15 others in the early hours of Friday.

Damboa is a farming community and 87 kilometers south of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

“We were caught unaware when two male suicide bombers attacked this mosque at dawn, and detonated the strapped Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs), killing nine worshippers in the mosque. Some of the people in the mosque had to flee, but over a dozen were injured,” said Yakubu Hassan, a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) member at the military post in Damboa.

He said the bombers sneaked into the community through the western flank of Damboa to attack residents who had been having relative peace in the last few months.

Hassan said: “The insurgents resorted to this kind of attacks, as they sneaked into the town, to cause more havoc on both lives and property without being noticed, when they attacked neighboring villages of Damboa and Sabon Gari.

“One of the male suicide bombers blew up himself, and killed nine people in this mosque, while 15 other worshippers were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.”

“It was a deafening explosion that scared many residents at dawn, when a male bomber killed nine people and dozens injured. On reaching the blast scene, everything was scattered, including body parts lying on the floor and charred of people seen around the mosque this morning,” the source added.

The Borno State Police Command also in Maiduguri confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP Weekend stating that nine people were feared killed in the Damboa’s mosque attack.

The police public relations officer, Mr Isuku Victor said that the report of the divisional police officer (DPO) in Damboa also indicated that some worshippers were injured in the twin suicide attacks that claimed the lives of nine residents.
