Journalists are the embodiment of trust, responsibility, commitment, compassion and duty, and they are the awakened conscience of the world and portrayers of their era; they are always present in the midst of society, and the cultural and intellectual health of any society depends on their efforts around the clock. The 10th of August which marks the Journalists' Remembrance Day, is a reminder of the epic creations of Iranian Martyr Mahmoud Saremi, who bravely fought until the last moment in defense of the dignity and honor of a journalist, and with his blood, he portrayed the pursuit of justice and truth so that the truthfulness would carry on in history.
This year, August 10th, Journalists' Remembrance Day coincided with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (PBUH) and his companions. How beautiful and appropriate it is to remember the Messenger of Karbala, Lady Zainab (PBUH). She stood in the battle of Ashura and did everything she could to fulfill what was assigned to her, and after that, in an unequal battle against the inhuman people, she spoke freely about the reality of the Karbala movement.
In the depths of history, Lady Zainab (PBUH) has been placed among the many messengers of truth and informers of mankind, and her holy voice is still the cause of enlightenment and awakening of people after 14 centuries. Lady Zainab (PBUH) is the narrator of the Ashura movement of Imam Hussain (PBUH) and if this narration did not take place at that critical moment in history, we would have had a different situation today.
Lady Zainab (PBUH) is rightly the ‘Messenger of Ashura’ and Ashura would stay in Karbala if it were not for Lady Zainab (PBUH)...’ It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if we introduce her as the best role model for a journalist; this analogy is enough for a true and free journalist to know what difficulties he should endure and what deprivations he will face in the way of telling the truth and awakening the people.
In addition to expressing condolences on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his 72 noble companions, I honor the Journalists' Remembrance Day and salute the great martyr Mahmoud Saremi and all free journalists of the world who risk their lives to realize their lofty goal. I wish you a lot of success and patience in facing the difficulties of this noble job.
