Millions gather for Soleimani, al-Muhandis funeral procession in Mashhad

The mass rally to mark funeral of the high-profile martyrs began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 9 p.m. in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and thereabouts.

Hawzah News Agency (Mashhad - Iran) - It is estimated that about 2 million people attended the funeral procession of martyrs Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and other martyrs in Mashhad.

The mass rally to mark funeral of the high-profile martyrs began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 9 p.m. in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and thereabouts.

The slogans put forth by the people were “Hayhāt minnā l-dhilla (never to humiliation!),” “Death to America,” “Death to Israel” and “Soleimani’s blood revived, saved us from plots.”

The ceremony was attended by the Iranian Minister of Culture, the chief custodian of Astan Quds Razavi, the Friday prayer Leader of Mashhad and distinguished guests from Iran and Iraq.

In a short speech, Hoj. Ahmad Marvi expressed his thanks to the millions of people at the martyrs’ funeral procession in Ahvaz and Mashhad.

Despite the cold weather and rain in the late hours of the program, many people from all over the country attended the event.

The body of the martyrs arrived at the holy shrine around 9 p.m. and was sent to Tehran after the pilgrimage and Tawaf around the mausoleum of Imam Reza (AS).

During three days of public mourning in Mashhad, Astan Quds Razavi held various programs, including Quran recitation, lectures and mourning ceremonies.

Lt. General Haj Qassem Soleimani was the honorary servant of Astan Quds Razavi in 2018, and served in the shoe keeping section (receiving and sorting pilgrims’ shoes).
