German police find drugs in raid on Wahhabis in Kassel

German police found illicit drugs in a search of premises at several sites linked to the Almadinah Islamic Cultural Association in the western city of Kassel, in an operation aimed at fundamentalist Wahhabi activists.

Hawzah News Agency-German police early Wednesday found illicit drugs in a search of premises at several sites linked to the Almadinah Islamic Cultural Association in the western city of Kassel, in an operation aimed at fundamentalist Wahhabi activists.
The early morning operation involving more than 160 officers was aimed at “a meeting point of the Salafist scene, in which calls are made for jihad and hatred of our tolerant society is fomented,” said Peter Beuth, interior minister of the state of Hesse.
The officers found written material, computer storage devices and communication aids, as well as 650 grams of marihuana und 500 grams of amphetamines.
Beuth said Hesse state authorities had been watching the association for some time and had acted following a ruling by the administrative court in Kassel.
The aim was to send a signal to extremists that there was “no place for preachers of hate” in the state, Beuth added.

The police raid was linked to an investigation into the Wahhabi association - German officials use the equivalent term Salafist - the state Interior Ministry said. Homes and venues used by the association were targeted.
