Ayatollah Arafi, Head of the Iranian Islamic Seminaries, referred to Imam Hussain’s (PBUH) sermon in Mina desert and said, “Imam Hussain knew well the elite and the intellectuals who lived during his period were indifferent towards corruption and injustice in the society and it led to many crises in that era,”

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at a meeting with some religious activists in Iranian province of Yazd, Ayatollah Arafi elaborated on the significant role of the religious tradition of Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice regarding Imam Hussain’s uprising on Ashura.

 

At the beginning of his remarks, Head of the Islamic Seminaries referred to Imam Hussain’s sermon in Mina desert in year 59 AH addressing the elites and intellectuals of that time and added, “One of the key elements and philosophies of Ashura movement was to revive the Islamic tradition of Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in the society. This can clearly be seen in every phase of Imam Hussain’s uprising,”

 

He further added, “Imam Hussain (PBUH) was upset with the elite’s indifference towards injustice and oppressions and had said, “This is a major threat that society’s intellectuals are  indifferent and carefree in the face of the corrupt and the oppressor rulers and this eventually leads to severe crises in the society,”

 

“The promotion of virtue and prevention of vice consists of different social aspects and audience such as the public, family, religious scholars, politicians, rulers and the intellectuals. I’d like to directly address you, the members of the committee of ‘the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice’ in Yazd, it is your duty to address all these groups and this makes your responsibility even harder.” Ayatollah Arafi concluded.
