Israel sentences Palestinian teen to 12 years in prison

An Israeli court has sentenced a Palestinian teenager to 12 years in prison over an alleged stabbing attack last October, while giving 11 years' imprisonment to a Palestinian woman over alleged car ramming.

Hawzah News Agency-On Monday, the Jerusalem al-Quds District Court sentenced 14-year-old Ahmad Saleh Manasra to 12 years in jail on alleged charges of attempting to murder a 20-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy in the illegal Israeli settlement of Pisgat Zeev in East Jerusalem al-Quds on October 12, 2015.

The court also ordered Manasra to pay 80,000 Israeli shekels ($21,000) in compensation to the Israeli man and 100,000 shekels ($26,260) to the Israeli boy.

Manasra allegedly carried out the assault along with his 15-year-old cousin Hassan, who was fatally shot by Israeli forces.

Video footage released on social media networks in the wake of the attack showed Manasra bleeding heavily on the ground as some Israeli bystanders shouted a mixed of Arabic and Hebrew obscenities at him.

Israeli forces and the passers-by did not provide any aid for the boy as he lied on the sidewalk with his lungs filled with blood and as he tried to speak and call for help.

An Israeli police member even kicked him back on the ground for a second time when the kid tried hard to raise his body and an onlooker was heard saying to police to “give him one shot in the head.”

An ambulance showed up at last but medics did not appear to take any measures to help the bleeding boy, except walking around idly to kill more time. Manasra was finally taken to a nearby hospital after losing a lot of blood.

Also on Monday, the Jerusalem al-Quds District Court condemned a Palestinian woman, identified as Asra’a al-Ja’abis, to 11 years in prison over an attempted car-ramming attack.
