 Man detained over mosque ‘threat’ on social media

An Adelaide man has been detained after a violent social media post targeting a Mosque was discovered.

Hawzah News Agency (Adelaide, Australia) - A firearm featured in an inappropriate social media post in which a man appeared to threaten violence against a local mosque is a toy, but it has been seized.

Police say the 29-year-old man was detained on Sunday night under the Mental Health Act.

He has since been released from hospital and no charges have been laid.

The man had posted a picture of himself holding what appeared to be an automatic rifle.

In an accompanying post he, wrote: “on my way to my local mosque to introduce these. to my lord and saviour Jesus Christ, Amen”.

Police confirmed on Monday that the “inappropriate comments” were posted on the man’s Facebook page.

“This man was pictured in a Facebook post holding what appeared to be a firearm,” police said.

“Police have seized a firearm believed to be the one displayed in the post. This is confirmed to be a toy.

“No criminal charges have been laid at this time but investigations are still continuing.”
