Trump’s offer to meet with Iran leaders ‘sign of weakness

A political commentator says he believes US President Donald Trump’s recent remark that he is willing to meet with Iranian leaders without any precondition is “a sign of weakness.”

Hawzah News Agency (Tehran, Iran) – “This declaration by Trump that he is willing to meet [with Iranian leaders] now without preconditions is not a sign of strength. It is a sign of weakness,” Mark Weber, director of the Institute for Historical Review, told Press TV on Wednesday.

The Trump administration’s campaign against the Islamic Republic “is reaching its limits,” because “most of the world has rejected the American campaign [and] countries are not willing to go along with the US campaign against Iran,” Weber said.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday, Trump asserted that he was open to meeting with Iranian leaders with “no preconditions.”

This is while Trump himself pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal in May, unilaterally breaking commitments made by the American government itself earlier in 2015.

His administration has also launched a worldwide campaign to dissuade foreign governments and private enterprises from doing business with Iran.

End.
