Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi : Moving of Israeli Capital New Strategy against Palestinians

Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi warned that the relocation of the Israeli capital to al-Quds (Jerusalem) is a new conspiracy hatched by Washington and Tel Aviv to “trample the rights of Palestinians”.

Hawzah News Agency (Tehran, Iran) - Speaking at a meeting with Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement's second-in-command, Sheikh Naim Qassem, in Tehran on Thursday evening, Ayatollah Hashemi

Shahroudi condemned a recent move by US President Donald Trump to recognize al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime.

He further emphasized that the relocation of the Israeli capital to al-Quds is “a new plot to trample the rights of Palestinian people and insult the Islamic sanctities”.

He further called on the Muslim nations and governments around the world to stand up against the “dangerous” conspiracy.

Sheikh Naim Qassem, for his part, said the recent move by the US on al-Quds is a prelude to a new Intifada (Palestinian uprising) in the occupied territories and more victories of the Resistance Front forces.

The remarks came after Trump officially declared the disputed city of al-Quds Israel's capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

In a speech at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The announcement was a major shift by Washington that overturns decades of US foreign policy.

Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.

End.
