Shia Scholars

Millions of Iranians from across the world go to the polls to elect the country’s next president as well as members of City and Village Councils today.

Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) - Senior Shia scholars in Qom including, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani, Grand Ayatollah Noori Hamedani, Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli, Ayatollah Mazaheri, Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani, Ayatollah Alavi Gorgani and Ayatollah Hussieni Bushehri cast their votes on Friday, May 19.

 

Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, head of Iranian Seminaries, made some remarks in Qom’s Friday Prayer sermon today in which he invited all Iranians to participate in the event, “ These elections start a new chapter in Iranians’ destiny, they are a manifestation of Islamic democracy in Iran. These elections pave the way for people’s freedom, security, progress and political awareness in the coming years.”

 

Reiterating that people’s participation in the elections is an act of worship, Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli, a senior Shia scholar, thanked people for voting for these elections and said, “I hope the result of these elections serve the best for this country and make Imam al-Asr (as) happy.”

 

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, a Shia source of emulation, highlighted the importance of Iranians’ participation in these elections and said, “Today, Iranians made history; the massive participation of Iranian voters in these elections are epic.”

 

Grand Ayatollah Hussein Noori Hamedani, a senior Shia scholar, also addressed the news correspondents after casting his vote and said, “Iranians’ massive turnout in these elections made another epic day in the history of the nation and they once again disappointed the enemies of the Islamic Revolution.”
