Chapter ۷۷: Sharpen Your Skills

Know that God created everything for you as the Quran says: "He committed in your service all that is in the heavens and in the earth…. In that are signs for a people who reflect". "someone who his two days are equal, he is at a disadvantage. "

Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) - The Quran is the principle source of every Muslim’s faith and practice, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures and provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and equitable economic principles. In coming weeks we are presenting some short articles on ethical issues that have been written based on the verses of Quran.

It is easy to fall into “destination disease.” That is when you are comfortable where you are. You are not stretching, not learning anything new. There is nothing wrong with being happy where you are, but you have to remember, you have so much more inside of you. You were created to increase, to grow, to stretch and sharpen your skills. You are the creature that angels prostrated before him. “Certainly We created you, then We formed you, then We said to the angels," Prostrate before Adam." So they all prostrated, but not Iblis (Satan); he was not among those who prostrated”. (Quran; 7:11)

Studies tell us that the average person only uses 11% of their brain. Think about how much more potential we all could be tapping into. Maybe you are an accountant, an electrician, a mechanic, a plumber. That is great, but what steps are you taking to improve? If you are at the same skill level today as you were five years ago, you are at a disadvantage. Imam Sadiq (as) said: “someone who his two days are equal, he is at a disadvantage”.

So shake out of that “destination disease” and start sharpening your skills. Keep stretching, keep growing and keep moving forward into the life of blessing God has prepared for you. Know that as God almighty says, everything is created for you. “He is the One who created for you all that is on earth”. (Quran; 2:29) “And He committed in your service all that is in the heavens and in the earth; all from Him. In that are signs for a people who reflect”. (Quran; 45:13)
