Hawzah News Agency- Sri Lanka, Addressing a gathering at a function at Katugasthota in Kandy, Minister Hakeem said some interest groups are attempting to create a fear psychosis among the people that the country is to be divided based on ethnic divisions in a bid to hinder the government's reconciliation efforts.

He said the President, Prime Minister and the government are committed to work with the minority groups and the entire nation to fulfill their aspirations to live in a united country through the new constitution. The new constitution will be prepared in a manner to achieve the objectives of all ethnic and religious groups.

Minister Hakeem stressed that there is no truth to some reports that the Muslim Congress has agreed to merge the Northern Province with the Eastern Province and assured his party will never agree to merge the North and East. He said the Muslim Congress always stands for a united country.
