Turkish Mosque Designed Based on Quranic Verse

The Hamidiya mosque in Turkey is a building designed based on a verse of the Holy Quran. An Azeri painter was invited to paint trees, waterfalls, gardens and the sky on the walls and ceiling of the building based on the content of the verse.

Hawzah News Agency (Kirsehir, Turkey) -Located in Kirsehir city in central Turkey, the mosque has a blue dome and a Mihrab behind which a stream of water flows.

It was built in 1910 in the Yinije neighborhood.

In recent years, it was decided that the mosque needs to be expanded as it could no longer accommodate the growing number of worshippers.

In 2015, rebuilding the mosque began and the officials decided to portray verse 22 of Surah al-Baqara, calligraphed on one of the walls, in the mosque building.

The verse reads: "[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].”

A painter from the Republic of Azerbaijan was, therefore, invited to paint trees, waterfalls, gardens and the sky on the walls and ceiling of the building based on the content of the verse.

The mosque then reopened later in the same year.
