High school student says classmate tried to rip off her hijab

Muslim teen 16, says she was attacked twice the day after Donald Trump was elected president and classmate tried to yank her hijab off of her head the day after Trump was elected president.

Hawzah News Agency-A 16-year-old high school student in Los Angeles says she has been the target of racist abuse since the election of Donald Trump.

Mariam Nomair, 16, a Muslim student at El Camino High School says she had been targeted for her religion before, but that the abuse has gotten worse since Tuesday.

She says she was the target of racist attacks twice on Wednesday, the day the election results were announced.

The 16-year-old teared up as she recalled how a male classmate tried to yank her hijab off of her head

In one instance, a male student walked up to her as she was walking to class and tried to rip her hijab off of her head and she was called a terrorist.

'He like grabbed me by my bun and my hijab and tried to pull it off,' she told. 'He was like, "You shouldn't be wearing that, you towelhead. You're not American. This isn't America. This isn't what America stands for."'

She says she isn't the only person who has been targeted at her school.

'We're getting attacked for no reason. I've done nothing wrong...and I don't understand why I'm being attacked because of it.

'I'm still scared to this day going into school or walking on the streets knowing that I'm a threat. People see me as a threat when I'm not really a threat at all. I've done nothing wrong at all to deserve this,' she said.

School officials are allegedly aware of the issues and have been supportive of Nomair, but she decided to go public with her story to raise awareness and address the hate.
