Hawzah News Agency- Hujjat al-Islam Abbasi, Chancellor of Al-Mustafa International University, met with the Mufti of the Muslims in Rwanda during his trip to Rwanda on Sunday, September 4.

Referring to the capacities and diverse activities of Al-Mustafa International University, Hujjat al-Islam Abbasi announced his readiness to boost scientific cooperation with the Muslim community by the efforts of Al-Mustafa Representative and the Religious Complex in Rwanda.

Mufti of Rwanda also presented a brief report on the situation of Muslims in this country and estimated the Muslim population at nearly twenty percent, contrary to inaccurate official statistics.

Considering the history of Islam in the African country, The Rwandan Mufti assessed the colonial period as the reason for the deliberate backwardness of Muslims, so that with the dominance of Christianity in schools and educational centers, no Muslim could get an education except by changing his name and hiding his Islamic identity.

The Mufti of Rwanda pointed out the tragic genocide in this country, in which both sides of the conflict were not Muslims, as the reason for changing the public opinion regarding Islam, and stated,” Although the passage of about three decades since that tragic incident has led to a new situation for Muslims, but it’s not been enough to fill this gap.”
